NEW TO LINDY'S? OR JUST NEED SOME INFO?

Here's  some information on all of our sprays, magicals, and embossing powder.  Their differences & a quick tip on how to get started with them.  For more techniques and ideas, make sure you visit our blog and youtube channel!

MAGICALS

Our Magicals are just that, MAGICAL!!!  These powdered dye based pigments are unlike any "pigment powder" that you've ever seen, as ours are dye based and "stain" rather than float within mediums. We've plopped them into various containers over the years, but are now selling them in jars and shaker versions.

USING OUR MAGICALS

GETTING STARTED:

  • Opening your tube lid....instead of pulling straight up on the lid, it's better to try to pop it out at an angle.  I use a pair of scissors through the loop on top to pry it out
  • Magicals are dye based, so use with caution, they will stain anything porous, including skin, fabric, carpet, etc

  • powders are highly pigmented, so powders go a long way.  Only start with a tiny amount

SOME WAYS TO USE YOUR MAGICALS:

  • sprinkle powder (either directly out of the shaker or with a fan brush) on your porous surface & spritz with water

  • spritz surface with water & sprinkle over for a different look

  • paint as a watercolor (either dry or hydrated with a bit of water)

  • take a bit out, mix with water & paint (adding more or less powder for lighter or darker versions of the color)

  • mix powder with any medium to colorize it & make it unique (from gel mediums to pastes & liquids)

  • mix with rubbing alcohol to create alcohol inks (80% or higher)

  • sold in sets of 5 (1/4oz) jars or individually in (1oz) shakers

Magical Shakers vs Magicals....that age-old question!  They really are the same beast overall, just in different packaging, so different amount of powder, but that's it.  Shakers have almost double the amount of glorious powder than the magical jars.

SPRAYS

TYPES OF SPRAYS:

USING OUR SPRAYS:

When filling your Lindy's Stamp Gang Starbursts, Moon Shadows or Glitz Spritzes, make sure you use warm water, (not too hot). We recommend filtered water, if you have it, though tap water will work fine.
***If you know your water is full of minerals or chemicals, we would highly recommend using filtered water just to make sure it doesn't react with the colors.

FILLING YOUR BOTTLE FOR THE FIRST TIME

  1. Remove sprayer & tap out any extra powder in tube

  2. Fill to fill line on the label, with warm water.  Swirl or stir.

  3. LET SIT AT LEAST 10 MINUTES TO LET EVERYTHING DISSOLVE OR YOU CAN GET CLOGGING!

  4. Replace sprayer. Swirl or shake to mix & spray to your heart's content. (If your color isn't exactly as you expect, stir, shake or swirl & wait a little longer to let the colors fully dissolve).

TIPS

  • Quick, rapid pushing on the sprayer will give more of a fine mist.  Slower, more firm pushing on the sprayer will give more splatters and texture.

  • Our sprayers are not just another boring fine mist sprayer, they were chosen by Lindy to have a little "splatter" when they sprayed because she loved texture! So experiment and see what great things you can create.

If you need the even coverage of a fine mist sprayer, we recommend you either over spray and wipe away the excess with a paper towel.

EMBOSSING POWDERS

TYPES OF EMBOSSING POWDER (EP)

TRANSPARENT = clear base EP (paper color comes through) + shimmer

OPAQUE = solid base EP (no paper color comes through) + shimmer

DETAIL = ultra fine solid EP (great for detailed stamping)

CHUNKY = solid base EP + flakes + shimmer + flecks

GLITTER = solid base EP + glitter + shimmer

Getting started:

  • Embossing powders (EPs) are used in conjunction with a heat gun that melts the powder onto your surface, (most surfaces work great)

  • stamp with a pigment ink pad or watermark ink pad, sprinkle EP on image, remove excess powder & heat until melted, (but not more than that)

  • pile powder on any surface that you can sneak a heat gun underneath, (no inks needed), heat from below

  • use water instead of an ink pad to create patterns, sprinkle EP on them, remove excess and heat until melted

Our transparent and opaque embossing powders have additional mica that sometimes likes to "halo" on paper. A few tricks to help prevent this are:

  1. Make sure the card stock/paper you use has a flat coating, (rather than a more fibrous or textured finish).

  2. Wipe your surface with a dryer sheet (bounce, etc) before stamping.

  3. Use a dusting cloth (like swifter) after you emboss & the embossing powder has cooled

  4. Try heating the embossing powder from underneath to prevent the powder moving as you heat it.

    SPRAYER PROBLEMS?

Our sprayers are guaranteed non-clogging, so if you are having issues, try these tricks:

    1. Clear the tube (toothpicks work great)
    2. Cut off a bit of the end of the tube
