Hello, Creative Friends!
Ericka here, ready to take you on a whimsical journey into the world of steampunk mixed media. Today, I’m sharing a pair of tags that combine the enchanting colors of Lindy’s Gang Industrial Chic Magicals with the quirky charm of Art House Whimsy printables. If you’re a fan of grungy textures, vibrant colors, and a touch of mechanical magic, you’re in for a treat!
The Process
1. Start with a Printable:
Every great project begins with inspiration. I chose these delightful Gear Head Pets from Art House Whimsy. After printing and cutting them out, I knew they’d be the perfect focal point for my tags.
2. Prep Your Base:
To ensure my colors would pop, I applied a layer of white gesso to a manila tag and let it dry. The gesso not only brightens the base but also enhances the vibrancy of the Magicals.
3. Add Some Magical Color:
Next, it was time to play with color! I reached for the Lindy’s Industrial Chic set, specifically the rich hues of Time Traveler Teal and Steampunk Sepia. After applying the Magicals, I spritzed with water to create a beautifully blended background, full of depth and texture. Don’t forget to let it dry!
4. Stencil for Interest (Optional):
For added visual interest, I used the Visible Image Ripples Stencil with Distress Oxide in Scorched Timber. A little ink blending around the edges of the tag brought everything together, creating a cohesive look.
5. Create Some Grunge:
What’s a steampunk project without a bit of grunge? I dyed some cheesecloth with Steel Shimmer Magical, transforming it into a wonderfully worn piece that adds texture and intrigue.
6. Assemble Your Tag:
Now for the fun part—assembly! I arranged the grungy cheesecloth on the tag and secured it with glue. The texture it adds is simply divine.
7. Frame Your Printable (Optional):
To give my Gear Head Pet a little extra love, I lightly scraped the edges with an embossing pad and applied Lindy’s Give Me Five Gold embossing powder. This subtle frame adds just the right amount of sparkle and definition.
8. Finishing Touches:
Finally, I adhered the printable to the tag and added a quirky sentiment using the AALL & Create Funny Bone Funnies Ephemera. The end result? Two fun, whimsical tags that any animal-loving friend would adore.
Final Thoughts
And there you have it—two steampunk-inspired mixed media tags brimming with personality and charm. I hope this project inspires you to dig into your stash and create something magical with your Lindy’s Magicals and favorite printables.
Thank you so much for stopping by! Now, go forth and create with wild abandon.
Happy crafting!
